The Statue of Liberty National Monument

Given to the US by France, the monument opened in 1886. In order to raise money for the base of the statue France sent the arm in advance and it toured the US to raise funds.

Lee Iacocca, former head of Chrysler, was appointed by Ronald Reagan to be the head of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. Iacocca paid for the statue to be refurbished.
